SSC MTS Eligibility 2026 Nationality Criteria
You must be a citizen of India. In addition to Indian citizens, the following are also eligible: A subject of Nepal or Bhutan. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia), or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates in the last category may need to produce an eligibility certificate from the Government of India at the time of document verification.

SSC MTS 2026 Educational Qualification
For both MTS and Havaldar posts, candidates must have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) or its equivalent examination from a recognized Central or State Board of Secondary Education. No minimum percentage or grade requirement exists. Any stream is accepted. Open school candidates from NIOS or recognized state open schools are also eligible.
Candidates who are currently in Class 10 or awaiting their Class 10 results are NOT eligible. You must have already passed and received your marksheet and pass certificate by the application closing date of July 31, 2026.
Graduates and postgraduates can also apply for SSC MTS. There is no upper qualification restriction. Many graduates appear for SSC MTS as it is a permanent central government job even at the entry level.
SSC MTS 2026 Physical Eligibility for Havaldar
In addition to CBT qualification, Havaldar post candidates must meet physical standards. These are checked at the PET/PST stage which comes after the CBT result.

Candidates who do not meet physical standards cannot be selected for Havaldar posts. However, if they applied for both MTS and Havaldar and their CBT score is above the MTS cutoff, they can still be allocated to MTS posts.
SSC MTS Number of Attempts
SSC has not prescribed any upper limit on the number of attempts for SSC MTS. You can appear for SSC MTS every year as long as you are within the age limit for your category. This means a General category candidate with maximum age 25 can appear from age 18 to 25, giving up to 8 attempts in different years.
